Decorating With Air Plants

by Richard Powers 06/19/2022

For anybody who wants to add a natural element to their home decor without routine maintenance, air plants are the answer. Named for being unattached to soil or other surfaces, these types of plants can exist on their own. They absorb moisture from the air in their surroundings, which makes them some of the easiest plants to care for. The plethora of shapes, colors and sizes of air plants make them a great option for decorating.

Here are some ideas for displaying air plants in a decorative way:

Air Plant Frames

Frames are an easy way to display air plants as if they were works of art. You can make a mount for air plants out of any picture frame or by making one yourself. Add a grid of metal wire or tightly woven twine and attach your air plants by fitting them through the holes. This will make a brilliant piece of wall decor and allow the plants the light they need to thrive.

Wood Slices

Natural wood slices are a popular item in DIY crafting and perfect for air plants. You can create an entire gallery of wood slices to display individual air plants and all you need are some basic materials. Attach a loop of wire or string on one side of the wooden surface, set the plants and you’ve got an instant art piece.

Geometric Shelves

Geometric display shelves are all the rage in home decor and are useful for countless purposes. They’re especially useful for displaying air plants because the lack of surface area or space won’t restrict plant growth. Try a sectioned display shelf and add your favorite air plant in one compartment alongside your favorite knickknacks for eclectic and unique wall decor.

Hanging Terrariums

Many people love to display their air plants in miniature terrariums and glass vessels and it’s easy to do so on the wall and any table surface. You can find hanging terrariums at many plant stores and hobby shops. Attach them to the wall in whatever way you wish, whether it be hooks, brackets or hanging from another shelf.

Driftwood

Driftwood is not only a clever way to display air plants but an excellent natural element to add into your decor on its own. Use any piece of drift wood either bought or locally sourced and attach your air plants either by creating a hole in the wood or by nestling them into existing grooves. You can either hang or display the driftwood plant holders on wall shelves and enjoy a low-maintenance living display.

Air plants are beautiful works of art all on their own but make perfect options for displaying on tables, shelves and walls. Try these air plant display ideas and enjoy the natural element it brings to your space.
